Walking Down the Street

April 21st, 2013

Walking down the street, I saw a dirty, unkempt, frustrated and hungry looking child. The child was begging for money and he was touching and pulling at people's clothes. I thought to myself what sort of harassment that was and so I quickly removed money from my bag to give to him because I didn't want him to touch me. The thought was unsettling. But he did, HE TOUCHED ME! And I didn't like it. So I asked myself why he still touched me though I gave him money even before he asked. But as I began to write this article, I recalled the little boy. I came to understand that it was a touch of gratitude from that little boy, and that TOUCHED ME. It gave me some sort of joy knowing that my little gesture was appreciated.

Gratitude can also be called thanksgiving or showing appreciation to someone. It could be man or GOD. Are you conditioned to giving thanks at the beginning of the month, at the end of the month or at the end of the year? Do you even give thanks at all? How do we show gratitude? I think you should show gratitude when you wake up every morning, when you go to bed every night, when there is food on your table and clothes on your back. You show gratitude when you forgive knowing that Christ forgave your sins. You show gratitude when you give because God is the giver of all good things. You show gratitude when you sacrifice your time to help others. You show gratitude when you love because Christ first loved us.

To thyself be true. If you think back on how you have lived your life and how you are still living your life, can you boldly say it is an act of gratitude? Do you cheat, hate, take or give bribes, falsify records, fornicate, steal, have an unforgiving spirit, disrespect authority or gossip? Or you do other things that are wrong scripturally, morally or even according to the law? Know this; we live in a period of grace. Therefore let us rid ourselves of those things that weigh us down. Let us show appreciation this season for the greatest sacrifice of all....JESUS CHRIST. He died to wash our sins away and he rose back to life in victory. Show gratitude by living to please Him alone.
